<br />
If you walk around Oglethorpe Speedway Park grounds on a day when it's quiet and nothing is astir you can still hear the name David Into whispered among the pines and echoes of cheers from numerous fans egging him to Victory Lane's Grace. David came bursting onto the Racing Scene armed with a friendly/soft spoken smile, his Crew Chief DD Into and crewman Benny Turner. He arrived to the sport rather late in life but ready to WIN and WIN often! Reigning dominance over OSP's Historic 1/2mi from 76-94 grabbing countless Feature Wins, 11 track titles, a Regional and a National Championship. Accomplishing all of this running against Legends like: Jack Pennington, Hal McGraw, Ricky Brant, Robert Elliot, Curt Redding, Donnie Bazemore and more. The Hardeeville, SC native inspired 100% Commitment, if you slacked even a little you may as well start planning for next week's opportunity to try again because that #4 was Gone!!<br />
<br />
David kept a vigilant eye toward the sport he loved. Keeping it healthy, alive and prosperous of ambitious hopes. He made time for fellow racers lending encouraging words where needed, offering helpful advice or a quick hand to fix a particular issue and always plenty time for fans across the boards. Allowing the young ones to have a sit inside that night's feature winning LM, letting them dream of their chance to catch a fresh set of checkers and buoying prospects to those looking to follow him into the sport.<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">The Old Savannah Speedway </td></tr>

<br />
<br />
I spoke with Ricky Brant, a fellow racer of David Into on his memories about the man: "The 1st time I ever met David was at the old Savannah Speedway in the mid 70s. At the time I was just starting out in racing and ran an old Plymouth Valiant in street stock. My 2nd race there I had come from the back of the pack to start charging for the lead when my right front wheel fell off and dropped me to the pits for a trailer finish. After the races David and his brother DD came up to me and told me I was looking pretty fast until I ran the wheel slap off the car. He told me to bring the race car by their body shop Monday and they would fix it so nothing like that would happen again. When I brought the car over they went right to work on it after hours Cutting/Grinding and Breathing a whole new life into that Plymouth. When we went back out the next Saturday as a Team we won that Feature and every Feature for the remainder of the year at the track. We became THE Dominant Force!<br />
<br />
During the off season David and his brother bought a Chevy II and built it into a race ready street stock. They brought it with them to Savannah Speedway's open practice and it was a real beauty!! Good Looking, Clean Lines and had a #4 on the forward part of the doors. They asked if I wouldn't mind shaking it down for them and I instantly replied I'd be more than delighted to but this first round I'd like to go ahead and run my #41 Plymouth. When I lined up to go out DD came to my door to let me know David was right behind me to take a few laps in the new car and warm it up. After we came back in David was All Smiles and Instantly Knew He was a Racer. I cherished seeing them pull up to the track and couldn't wait to compete against my mentor and friend. We fed off of each other and became better racers for it.<br />
<br />
"In 1983 at Oglethorpe Speedway Park it came down to one final race for LM Track Champion. It'd be decided between either David or myself, whoever finished in front of the other would be Crowned Champ. All season long we had packed the stands with giddy anticipation on who was going to win that night and this was no different. I ran into my friend/mentor/hero at the concessions and asked simply 'Are you ready for this?' He replied just as simply 'I am.' We each understood the simple fact that with the helmet off and outside the track was one thing but it was something entirely different strapped in and green flag in the air. We were competitors, we raced hard, we raced clean and most importantly we respected each other. I took the night, the Championship and the 1st man to come and shake my hand was David Into.<br />
<br />
"Every night I walk out on my porch to stretch my legs for a bit and take in a cricket's melody. Last night (4/20/15) the skies were really clear and I saw an incredibly bright shining star carefully hung in the sky. I like to think it was David smiling his farewell and signaling that he'd be waiting, ready to race us again."<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Donnie Bazemore reflects on his time competing against David Into </td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<br />
I spoke with Donnie Bazemore, a fellow racer of David Into about his memories of the man: "I studied David for years before I ever got into LM racing. I remember he'd finish every race with barely a blemish on his ride and running on a rail. After the races were over I'd go and speak with him. He'd tell me what he thought of that night's track, the adjustments they made, how he drove it and why. He would always encourage me to take the next step up in class and join him running LMs. When I finally got my 1st Late Model in 1990 we pitted right beside him and carefully watched his team, mimicking what we could so we'd become a winning phenom as well. That 1st year was a true learning experience. If it looked like we were getting a bit discouraged David would be there pumping us back up and getting us rolling again. A real Class Act. <br />
<br />
"Pretty soon we started getting better and better and running stronger. One night we fired the feature side by side, I ended up pushing him up the groove and finished ahead of him. His brother DD came over and asked if I bought my driver's license at WalMart. I knew right then WE had finally achieved their level of competition and that was our acknowledgement. I was very excited!! In the Most True form of Competition, David and I relished the opportunities OSP provided to run against each other. Every race was a back and forth pitched battle on who would get to glean the Trophy Girls Kiss! Matter of Fact his final 2 Championships I ran 2nd in points to him.<br />
<br />
"I'll never forget Into's final race. It was an end of the season 100 Lap race in '94 worth $5K. Every driver in the pits knew this would be their final chance to trump the King of OSP and wanted to bring their level Best to see him off the right way. David fired the 1st 50 Laps leading the way, I was hot on his tracks and could tell by the sparks shooting from his RR caliper he was having issues but still couldn't find a way to get around the man. Competition Caution came at the midway point, he pitted and let DD and Benny work their magic on that Hot Rod #4. When green came out for the final 50 Laps, it was over for the rest of us. David left us on an absolute rail to win by a straightaway.<br />
<br />
"That's how you do it. You go Out on Top of Your Game.<br />
Total Class."<br />

Anytime you're at a Dirt Track it's a Magical Time! From familiar fellowship to chili/cheese dog concessions to the solicitous smell of burnt racing fuel wafting the air. Walking through the infield you'll find crews pitching in getting done what needs to get done so their ride will be found basking in Victory Lane's sweet glow by night's end. <div style="text-align: center;">
As a beautiful spring night dusked over Swainsboro Raceway the track was bustling. Teams streamed in from surrounding areas to the Purvis Family venue chasing both weather and a chance to enjoy their hobby. One such team, 121 Nation with their New TnT ride and driver Pearson Lee Williams, pulled to the infield and began preparations to own this night. The previous evening had seen them in NeSmith Racing Action at Waycross Motor Speedway. They held their own in the 40 Lap Main Event against the Who's/Who of today's Racing World but didn't capture the Checkered Finish they craved. This resilient group took what they had learned and applied it to their gaining notes on the new chassis. Information proved quickly fruitful, they timed in quickest overall with a 15.103 to hold pole position starting honours in the main event over Chesley Dixon's #3 BWRC and Ben Faircloth's #27 Rocket.<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
19 car field rumbled onto the arena for green flag's salute to motorsports and Pearson artfully arched the 121 into Turn 1 holding Dixon at bay. PL was quickly back on the throttle and the two combatants continued their back and forth exchange down the back stretch with Faircloth's Rocket in the CatBird's seat waiting for either to slip up. As laps unwound the 121 machine exerted superior handling and started getting smaller only to have a caution bring the field back to him. Restart had Pearson on point with Dixon and Faircloth side by side. Green flew again to witness Pearson leave a great brawl of man and machine between Dixon and Faircloth for P2. Ben's Rocket eventually won that battle and closed the gap to within a car length on PL. All Faircloth could do was to apply pressure and hope for a driver error but Pearson's TnT Machine looked Great Everywhere on the track. Only thing to slow the 121 Machine down was Checkers warm embrace as Pearson Lee Williams captured his 1st LM Feature WIN at Swainsboro Raceway!!!<br />

Here's what the Night's Champion had to say, "Car was tremendous the whole feature. I knew the track would slick off the last 10 laps of the race but I also knew we still had to be free enough at the start of the race to get away from the #3 and #27. Our team decided to leave the car alone after qualifying and determined that changing driving styles from the seat would be our feature set up. Beating folks like Ben Faircloth and Chesley Dixon to the line for the WIN is in itself so Amazing! Those 2 know this track so well and have so many celebrated wins between them here it's unreal.<br />
<br />
"First off I'd like to thank the Good Lord, with Him nothing is impossible. I'd like to thank my parents Clayton and Erica Williams for giving me this opportunity. Throwing caution to the wind and disbelieving wild infield pit rumours of Sacrificial Alters, VooDoo Magical Trinkets and a sprinkling of Nefarious/Other Worldly Methods of Concerted Winning Ways; we traveled down the simple/honest dirt road, surrounded on either side by blueberry fields that lead to the House of SPEED (AKA BFR Race Shop).<br />
<br />
Setting aside his task, we were instantly greeted warmly by Mr Richard, the team's engine man. He reminisced a bit about his own racing ambitions which started in 1967 with drag racing, his transition into dirt racing and the five years he spent as a Tech Man for 441 Speedway. When he touched on being an honoured member within Ben Faircloth Racing he broke out into All Smiles. "I'll tell ya honestly, in all the years I've spent in Racing this is easily the Most Fun I've had in the sport. Whether we're pulling maintenance on the cars, at the track racing or just hanging around chewing the fat; we enjoy ourselves even on the tough nights all teams face. That's the atmosphere around this place and the reason why we're able to overcome so much to stay focused on grabbing the Win." </div>

Mr Edmond Marsh, Ben's Crew Chief of 8yrs, echoed much the same sentiment. "Simply put, we just click. We set the same High Standards of getting the WIN IN. Stretching out and trying new venues or other things that push the outer envelope of our team's capabilities. Stopping and Analyzing what we did right and what we did wrong then going back and getting that particular WIN. It just breeds Good Aggressive Racing and Attracts people to our program. For example, after our 13 win season and grabbing the Great8 CLM Series Title, we are Blessed to welcome Trent Hall Racing and their 2014 Rocket on board this season. He brings with him new resources and ideas but holds the same hunger for that checkered flag. I'm looking forward to working with him and having someone else to bounce thoughts and notions on set-ups. In all we'll become a better Team for it." </div>

Ben Faircloth entered the shop with a casual smile after attending to some duties on his farm. Without having ever met this man you could easily recognize him as either a halfback on a semipro football team or one of the fiercest DLM competitors around these parts. Luckily for the Greater S GA Region he's the latter. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<u>I asked Ben his thoughts on the sport</u>: "1st thing you've got to remember is that it is a Hobby. If you're not approaching it with a smile and ready to have a good time then you're starting yourself out in a hole. There's other teams out on the track ready to beat you to the line;<br />
Don't Help Them Beat Your Team.<br />
I don't care if you're racing for $100, $1000 or $10,000 Always bring your Best! You owe it to the Fans in the stands and you owe it to your competitors. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
Remember: It's all about the Fellowship, Fun and catching one Heckuva Show." </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<u>I asked Ben how he crafted his skills and advice he'd give to someone just starting out</u>: "I've always studied Racers I respected. I'd sit for hours pouring over tapes. Rewinding them and advancing them frame by frame to see how they approached a particular corner in traffic and by themselves. The adage of 'Slower is Better and Faster' is 100% True. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
To be Truly/Consistently Competitive you've got to have a Top Notch Maintenance program and you've got to know you're equipment in this sport.<br />
Check to see that what is supposed to move, moves freely.<br />
Check that what isn't supposed to move, is stationary.<br />
If nothing else, it's embarrassing as all get out to have something fall off the car while you're racing. Don't let it happen. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Most of all learn patience and learn all you can from those that are beating you to the line. Don't be afraid to make a mistake. Know your car and everything that's on it.<br />
<br />
The Wins and Recognition will come with Time." </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<u>I asked Ben his Favourite Race or Win</u>: "Every Win is Important to me. I savour each one for it's uniqueness and the work involved to get it.<br />
We chased the PineTree100 for a number of years until we got it.<br />
I remember the 1st GM Crate motor we got back in 2011. You see, up to this point we had only run LLM motors. We dropped the Crate into the car and took it over to 441 Speedway for NeSmith's 'Salute to America' double race event. I qualified pole and led every lap both Friday and Saturday!! We were besides ourselves!<br />
Then there was the year we put a Super Motor in the car and headed off to Charolette Motor Speedway. We never made it into the show but I was on the track racing with Scott Bloomquist, Kenny Schrader and all those stars.<br />
We had a bunch of Fun on that trip!" </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<u>I asked Ben where his nickname came from</u>: "My daddy gave that to me a long time ago. No matter what I do I can't seem to shake it.<br />
I always wanted to have a Georgia Bulldog car. I figured even if you were the slowest thing on the track the kids and fans would still love to see you. When it came time to reskin the GRT we did Georgia colours and instead of 'GOON' I put 'The GAME' on it. I thought it sounded so much cooler like: 'Oh lookee there, he brought his A GAME' or 'It looks like it's GAME ON tonight'.<br />
Drawback was, I didn't think it all the way through and what would happen when I got beat back to the FlagStand and having to hear: 'Hmmm, Guess it's GAME OVER now'<br />
<br />
'GOON' will be back on the new car" </div>

Tyler Mimbs rolled into Swainsboro Raceway with a solitary mission in mind: "Get to the front QUICK and NEVER Look Back!!!" Any casual observer could look around the infield at Swainsboro and see 11 other CLM Teams had arrived with the same exact Game Plan. However on this beautiful S GA spring night, no one was a match for the Mimbs Race Team. They unloaded the #11 Woods and Associates Fabrication/Auto Parts R Us/MasterSBilt SmackDown and went right to work. Timing in a Brilliant 15.244 they set FAST Time Honours and Quickly Claimed P1 starting spot for Week #3's Feature Event. </div>

Crowds of Fans stood at attention as the CLM Feature took to Purvis' Clay Arena and all eyes focused on the East Dublin native sitting in P1. He held their hopes and ambitions that tonight they would see him in Victory Lane's Glow. Tyler's shoulders are broad and he ably carried those dreams along with his own lofty aspirations. Green flag fell on the main event and Mimbs was off like a shot wheeling his MasterSBilt to near perfection chewing up Honest GA Clay. Although the night saw many a Caution Flag come to the rescue of making P2 a relevant position to be in, none could match the cornering speed of Tyler's ride. He held off Advances from Henderson's #2X along with the Hard Charging Brandon Carpenter #B4 machine.<br />

<div style="text-align: center;">
Although weather had shortened the 2nd Annual Emory Stone Memorial into a single day affair, Fan and Racer alike came to Oglethorpe Speedway Park on 3/21 in droves. They were on hand this Beautifully Scripted Day to Pay Tribute to the Stone Family and Memory of a Man who made OSP a HighWater HallMark of Dirt Racing in South Georgia! Graciousness of Emory was widely known throughout the South, driving car counts and calibre of cars through the roof. If you were lucky enough to make it out of a "C" or "B Main" into the "A Main" you accomplished something. Goes without saying the level of driver you were should you take Checkers in the "A Main". In Emory's eyes every weekly racer, no matter which division, at OSP was "His Boy". </div>

Final Event of the Evening was the CLM Feature Spectacular!! Anxious Racers brought numerous cautions before Delma Cowart was able to flag Lap 1 into the books. The only constant in the sea of cautions was Eddie Jo powering his #44 MasterSBilt through the turns and straightaways on point. He held serve in early laps as the #G4 Swartz of Garrett Shurling sought out P1. It wasn't until the latter stages of the Event that saw the Strongest Challenge come to Eddie Jo in the form of the familiar #48 BWRC. This Machine, driven in Excellence by Robert Diekemper, had been sent to the tail of the field earlier in the feature event after being mixed up in some mayhem. Diekemper cut back through the pack until he charged up to the #44 Machine in runners up position. With 5 to go Diekemper began testing out weak points only to find Eddie Jo's ride handled all aspects of the track extremely well. Diekemper backed off letting his RR cool for a Final Try at the Night's Glory. He applied pressure to Morris down the backstretch into Turn #3 but Diekemper couldn't unnerve the past Track Champion from his post. Rounding Turn #4 Eddie Jo brought the House down as Delma greeted him with a wave of the Checkers!!! </div>

This Victory is ALL in 'Thanks' to our off-season work. We updated our front suspension to MasterSBilt's 2015 program and poured over every nook and cranny of the car. The vaunted National Late Model Series would show up at any given venue with 50-60+ LLMs in tow wanting to make Ray Miller's Show. BIG Names followed religiously where this series led. Names including "The Professor" Ivedent Lloyd Jr, "JAX Juggernaut" Jason Fitzgerald, "The Gambler" Russell Brown Jr, "Magicman" Mark Whitener, "FlatFoot'n" Casey Barrow and more. These Racers along with everyone in the elbow room only Grand Stands knew fully a third of these elite Wheelmen would make the A Main. Recent years had bore witness to Ray Miller's decline in health casting an uncertain shadow over the series as a whole and dates began disappearing from the series calendar. Not wanting to see his dream diminished further, Ray tagged the shoulder of his Right Hand Man, a man who has been by his side since the beginning, Donnie Brown. Strict Instructions were included with this commission: Carry on and make all that was Right, Right Again!!! </div>

Stating to every audience that the National Late Model Series hadn't lost anything and plans are in place to carry them back to once held industry prominence. Long Time sponsors K&N Filters, Hedman Hedders and More immediately signed on with tracks following suit. January 10th of this year the Ray Miller Appreciation Race was held at beautiful Waycross Motor Speedway. Teams and fans showed up in droves paying homage to this Dirt Track Visionary. The night's ensuing Feature Event saw an epic show highlighted with a battle between Ivedent Lloyd and RBJ for point.<br />

"ASG Security is the 9th Largest private security company NationWide. They have the latest innovations in security, from wireless cameras to touch screen panels to 24hr Customer Care. For example, they carry an item called the "FireFighter". This device sits in the vicinity of your smoke detector, listens for it to go off and alerts you even if you're not home. Say you've taken the Family out of Town for Saturday Night Dirt Track Action. The SLM Feature is at 5 To Go, I've marched through the field and have the leader in my grasp. Suddenly your smartphone beeps in with a message from the "FireFighter" saying your smoke alarm is going off and asking if you would like word sent to the Fire Department. As I stood by the stage for the first time at Florence
Speedway on an off and on rainy Saturday and watched as each of the new members
of the National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame were introduced, I could not help
but feel a real sense of pride. It was history in the making as these great
legends received their respective honors.<br />
<o:p></o:p><br />
<br />
In late 2010 I was appointed as a member of the NDLMHOF
Governing Board. This was an honor that I was certainly quick to agree to and
covet. The appointment would allow me to give my input on future nominees and the
future of the Hall of Fame itself. The
class of 2011 was the first that I had voted on. I took the voting, as I am
sure all of the other voting members do, very seriously. When I received the
ballot I studied it quite a bit. I read online and researched those that I
wasn’t very familiar with. I think I gave it its due attention and I sincerely
believe I voted for the best candidates. All but one of the people I voted for
were elected. I attribute that not to my own prowess but to that of the
nomination descriptions on the ballot that Bob Markos and Bill Holder provided.</div>

It seems that racing message boards have inspired several of
my recent columns and the message I intend to relay in this one is yet another
of those. As I perused the net and read over the boards I read many posts that
shed a negative light on the Hall of Fame. Some of the posters were asking
legitimate questions but most of the detractors were simply ignorant and mean
spirited. It made me wonder if any of these keyboard quarterbacks has any idea
of the hard work and time that so many have out into it. So I decided to
address some of those with this column. I hope it makes some re-think their
opinion and at the very least offer an amount of well-deserved respect for the
Hall of Fame and those that pour their heart into it. </div>

For those of you that are not aware the National Dirt Late

survives on donations and fund raisers. Mr. Holder and the entire board have
done a remarkable job in building the Hall of Fame building with the very
limited amount of funding that they have. The Hall was very fortunate that the
King family stepped up and donated the land on which the Hall of Fame building
now sits on at Florence Speedway. Arizona Sport Shirts and Gerald Newton have
been major contributors to the continued success of the Hall of Fame. And in
2015 Newton was named the new president of the Hall. I am fortunate that I was
also asked to continue as a member of the board and even take on a more active
role. <o:p></o:p></div>

Many have questioned the location of the Hall of Fame. But
let’s face it Florence is really at the epi-center of Dirt Late Model Racing.
When you look at a map and plot the true strongest regions of Dirt Late Model
Racing Florence is essentially right in the middle. Some fans have suggested
that the Hall of Fame should be located at Eldora Speedway. Yes Eldora hosts
the two biggest Dirt Late Model races in the country. Yes it hosts what is
considered to be the most prestigious event in the division but Eldora is also
a Sprint Car Mecca. If the Hall of Fame were at Eldora I believe that it would
lose some of its specialness. At Florence it stands alone as the only other
attraction at the speedway. And let’s face it over the last five or so years
Florence has laid claim to what most consider the third biggest Dirt Late Model
race in the country with the Sunoco North-South 100. <o:p></o:p></div>

Still others questioned the validity of some of the
inductions. While the founding fathers of the Hall of Fame will readily admit
that they would do some things different if they had it all to do over again I
still suggest that they have done an excellent job with class selections. In
order to maintain the objectivity and integrity of the process the Board has
enlisted members from all over the United States to nominate and vote for inductees.
The group is a diverse and experienced lot that have spent their lives around
dirt racing and have developed a well-rounded knowledge of the sport. Just as I
did this past year they have poured over statistics and information and voted
for the candidates that are most deserving of the honor. In my estimation they
have gotten it right for the largest part.<o:p></o:p></div>

So I submit to you that OUR National Dirt Late Model Hall of
Fame might not be the nicest Hall of Fame building in racing and it may not be
the biggest or best. The National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame is not perfect.
But what it is is OURS. But what I can tell you with great certainty is that
those that are enshrined within its walls are as proud as any other athlete or
contributor to other sports’ halls of fame. So take the time to walk around the Hall of
Fame. Soak in the many photos and newspaper clippings. Check out the cool race
cars and artifacts on display. And if you have any love at all for this sport,
afford some respect for OUR Hall of Fame. And it wouldn’t hurt to throw a few
bucks in the donation box on your way out.<o:p></o:p></div>

NeSmith Series Director, Adam Stewart has a Cheshire's grin about the 21 Race Schedule on tap for the upcoming season and was readily available for comments when SGR Staff caught up to him and asked about the South Georgia dates.<br />
<br />
"Our racing at Golden Isles Speedway was excellent for racer and fan alike in 2014. Darryl Courson always has a well prepared facility and the surface absolutely promotes side by side racing. I'm really excited that this venue will be hosting one of our Biggest Events on the calendar, a $10K To Win Show on Aug 21&22. Goes without saying being part of the two day ShowDown on Coast in October is a Huge Honour in itself. Last Year's Friday show boasted one of closest finishes in series history! Many of the fans stopped by to speak with series officials and comment on the competitiveness we brought throughout the weekend. Needless to say we are excited about all of the dates at Golden Isles Speedway."<br />
<br />
"Proud to say we've Welcomed Waycross Motor Speedway into the NeSmith Family of tracks. Personally, I'm excited to introduce these great folks to our Fast and Fierce Dirt Track Action on April 10&11. I relish the opportunity to Showcase our Racers and Sponsors at new venues or ones that have been absent from the schedule for some time. We believe in our brand of racing and hold our heads high when we look toward the grand stands seeing that families came in droves to watch us put on a Show. Or simply speaking with a fan after the features have run and noting they've grown hoarse from cheering these stars on. We hope this event at Waycross turns into an annual pilgrimage."<br />
<br />
One thing is guaranteed. The ticket stub you hold in your hand after gaining admission to a NeSmith Show is your ticket to a world of art. A museum of memories carefully carved out of Honest South Georgia Clay by some of this nation's finest craftsman.<br />

Through better than 3 decades Clint Smith has been a competitive constant in the World of DLMs. To the multitude of faithful legions that admire this Georgia Racer, he's still known as the "Iron-Man of Hav-A-Tampa". From its inception in 1990 til 1998 the Senoia Native never missed a single event in the Star Studded series. Cat Daddy captured the series championship in 1993, besting the likes of Scott Bloomquist, Ronnie Johnson, Jack Pennington, Lavon Sloan and Dale McDowell. "When you raced and won in the Hav-A-Tampa series, you accomplished something special right there." Clint said "Top Notch Drivers from all across the country came to test their mettle and find out if they were MORE than a Big Fish in a little pond. I'll always savour my 1st Win in that series. Sweat Streaming down my face, Whisking past the Flag Stand to edge out a Tough as Nails Field and Clutching the Checkers in Triumph high above my head at South Hampton Speedway. Right Then in my very own hands, I held Undeniable PROOF No One in the WORLD was better than us on that Hot August Night. Man, were we Rolling!!" </div>

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Over the years Clint Smith has made an indelible impression on the landscape of dirt racing. Carving out 4 Southern All Star series titles (1992, 1993, 2000 and 2003), 2005 he scored the HillBilly100 Win, 2012 he was the "Rome Boss" Winner. In all Cat Daddy has accumulated more than 200 SLM Feature Wins. Trumping these amazing feats came on December 13, 2014 when he was afforded an opportunity few good Georgians are ever granted. On this day his father, Roscoe Smith, was inducted into the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame and Clint was on hand to escort him into those hallowed halls. "I vividly remember growing up working on my pop's car in the race shop. Meeting many of the personalities that surround dirt tracks as we traveled all over the SE searching out wins. I even helped him build LM chassis for some truly outstanding racers. I know that's where my Love of the sport stems from. </div>

"If that wasn't a Grand enough day, Leon Archer was in the same class inducted as my pops. He won the inaugural NDRA Series Championship in 1979. A national touring series my dad helped organize. Early in my own racing career I chased Leon around many tracks but could never quite catch him. He possessed a slippery, eerie ability to always beat me back to the finish line. I asked him what his secret was & whether he'd be willing to teach it to me. Leon sorta cleared his throat and said, "There really ain't too much to this racing business... Other than remembering the 2 Golden Rules before climbing into that seat. Rule #1 'Nothing much matters other than Winning'. Rule #2 'Not one person will ever come to you asking who finished 2nd'. If you remember these Golden Rules of Racing you'll do just fine." </div>

As the season begins to formulate, Clint plans on keeping his racing program closer to his work in Senoia. Clint Smith Racing does many types of aluminum fabrication from race car bodies and decks to trucks. "We're proud to welcome back Southern Cable and Utilities and Southern Fibernet as sponsors on the CSR program in 2015. We plan on placing their names into some Prime Real Estate that only Victory Lane can afford. We'll fire off the season at the World of Outlaws sanctioned Winter Freeze Feb 5-7th at Screven Motor Speedway in Sylvania. From there we'll be picking and choosing many of the WoO dates as they get closer to the house. I like running the Ray Cook Southern National series events and it looks like my hometrack of Senoia will be hosting SLM races on a regular basis." </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
When asked about what kind of Legacy he'd like to leave for racers and fans alike, Clint answered simply "When it's all said and done I'd be proud to be remembered as Roscoe Smith's son. A reflection of a man that was always friendly, hard working, knowledgeable and fiercely competitive wherever he unloaded. If I can impart those types of values I'd be a happy man." </div>

HUGE Honour of being named driver of a GRT House Car comes on the heels of a Successful 2014!! The just concluded season found Jason Fitzgerald hammering down an OutStanding 14 Wins and gathering his first series title since returning to pilot a LM himself. During the brief off-season this Dirt Track Visionary sits down to take pen in hand and script a New Chapter into the Legend that is The JAX Juggernaut!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Growing up helping his uncles with their Open Wheel Modifieds and being constantly surrounded by racing, it seemed Jason Fitzgerald was predestined to thrill fans Far & Wide behind the wheel of a High Powered Race Car! He got his start toward the end of 1993 in an Open Wheel Modified. It wasn't until the beginning of 2000 that Jason officially climbed into a DLM cockpit. The Rest, as they say, Reads as a Novella... '01 Putnam County LM Championship, '08 SAS SLM ROY and 2nd in overall series standings, '09 claimed an incredible 8 out of 15 events in the Ferociously Competitive National Late Model Series to carry that title on back to Middleburg. Intermix these Racing Monuments with the fact that The JAX Juggernaut hung up his helmet briefly to Crew Chief the Dunn/Benson & later Bobby LaBonte SLM programs. Fellow Jacksonville racer Earl Pearson Jr piloted as Jason led them onto a very satisfying World100 WIN and Lucas Oil Dirt Late Model Dominance that included 2 Championship Titles!! </div>

2009 witnessed The Juggernaut climbing behind the wheel of his first GRT DLM. From 43 starts the season yielded 16 Wins, 15 Top 5s, 9 Top 10s and 4 Fast Qualifier Awards. Merits of the chassis weren't lost on Jason. The Adaptability and Operator Friendly Quick/Ease in which the cars would get to the front proved not only to be a surefire Checkered Flag ATM Deposit but was of Championship Quality Calibre! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Removing his CC cap in 2011 and getting off the national touring series circuit, JFitz received a call from Joe Garrison of GRT asking him if he might like to drive his cars. From there a Great Friendship blossomed as a steady stream of podium posturing chassis followed suit. Becoming a Factory Authorized GRT Dealer and Service Centre in 2012 the SE's Home for Winning became known as GRT by Fitzgerald. Although the team specializes in GRT, other chassis are consulted on (MasterSBilt, Rocket, Barry Wright, Walter Newman, etc). They offer everything from a Bumper to Bumper package which includes shocks, springs, front/rear squaring and geometry upgrades to the simplest of scale solutions. </div>

As 2015 comes near, expect to hear many a Cheer from Deep in Florida all the way to GRT Home Office in Greenbrier, Arkansas as The JAX Juggernaut rides the House Car right into a New Chapter of Unbridled Success!!! </div>

<br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><b>Keep Some Sunshine on Your Face </b></span><br />
<br />
A few nights
back I was kicked back watching television when I stumbled across a documentary
on HBO about the late comedian Richard Pryor. I have always enjoyed stand-up
comedy and Richard Pryor is high up on my list of favorite comedians. The
documentary wound through Pryor’s at-times troubled life. Throughout the show
there were short clips from many of Pryor’s various stand-up specials. I was
drifting in and out of watching (maybe even dozing a bit) when the clip came on
where Pryor was doing his infamous character Mudbone. And this particular clip
ended with Mudbone’s simple analogy for living a happy life and keeping
positive – “Keep some sunshine on your face”.<br />
<a name='more'></a></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0in;">
<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0in;">
That struck
me, I’m not really sure why but at the time it just did. I got up and went to
my computer. I had seen the routine before and even remembered the line. But I
knew that I had heard or read something similar before. Then I found this…"Keep
your face always towards sunshine and shadows will fall behind you". It
was from Walt Whitman. I knew I had read it before. I also interpret Whitman’s
quote to mean - if you stay positive, all of the negative in life can’t and
won’t affect you because you simply don’t focus on it. Being the social media
nerd that I have become, I posted both quotes on my Facebook page and showered
both Whitman and Mudbone with my approval. Little did I know that a few days
later, I would be thinking about these same quotes yet again as I encountered 2
great applications of those thoughts in my own life. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0in;">
As I pulled
up the hill at Toccoa Speedway I was optimistic for a good night at the oldest
running dirt oval in Georgia. Toccoa is rustic and a little rough around the
edges but it is brimming with history and atmosphere. Those folks that fill
those grandstands really love their racing and they have shown it every time I
have ever been there. I was a little frustrated that our car count was lower
than I had expected but still not terribly much so because what we did have is
about all you need for Toccoa’s little 5/16ths of a mile bullring,
so no big deal. After the race, which coincidentally was pretty exciting,
someone posted a negative comment on our page that somewhat miffed me. The
comment wasn’t about me or my series but more about the track. I got a little upset
and began to type a terse response. As I was typing someone liked a previous
status on Facebook which popped up a notification on the screen. I quickly
looked at the notification and low and behold it was the status mentioned
above. I went right back and deleted what I had just typed without ever posting
it. No need to answer a negative with a negative. Just keep some sunshine on
your face I thought to myself.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0in;">
As I sat
today looking at the world as told by social media (which is usually more
entertaining that TV news but is rarely as accurate) I came across a status by
my friend Chris Nunn where he wondered if he was in the right business because
of such internet bashing of tracks and drivers. As I read Chris’ thoughts I
thought to myself about how much better our sport would be if everyone chose to
keep some sunshine on their faces. Now I know that sometimes things need to be
brought to the light and questioned. But if we could all just find a way to do
it that was more about helping and less about hurting, wouldn’t that make our
sport a better? <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0in;">
I learned a
similar lesson last year when I met Blake Grinstead at Dublin 441 Speedway in
South Georgia. I wrote about that experience too. I am thankful that I keep
getting handed these life lessons and I am even more thankful that I am
learning them while doing what I love to do. I’m glad that God has given me
these opportunities and I am thrilled to have a place to be able to share them.
My Daddy always said to make sure to leave it better than you find it. So
here’s my advice for the month. The next time you are thinking about putting
someone on blast for something they have said (or typed) or done to you, just
stop for a moment. Take a deep breath and make sure to keep a little sunshine
on your face. <o:p></o:p></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The 27yr old Gutsy HotShoe from Gray, GA strikes a very nice balance between the Family Business (Scotty's Muffler, Brake and Lube in Macon) raising his own family and the business of Dirt Track Action! Working a Mon-Fri schedule that includes 1/2 day on Saturday puts it's own set of limitations on what events that the team can travel to. They've managed it nicely though and mostly find a race every week during the season. Good Folks know, anytime that #1N backs out of a trailer, you're in for a Great Show! </div>
<a name='more'></a><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The Nipper Team (consisting of father Scotty, son Jordy and Billy Denton) began running LMs in 2004. His first taste of Feature Checkers came at Cochran Motor Speedway midway through the 2004 season in LLMs. Jordy ended that '04 season in October by scoring a $10,000 LLM Victory at Oglethorpe Speedway Park's ShowDown in Savannah! A date certain to garner Gold Stars on anyone's calendar and be considered a Crowning Achievement by many in the Racing World. Not Jordy. No sir. I asked him about his most cherished win to date. Instantly you could sense a smile swell over the normally reserved driver's face. He brought up Night 1 of the 2012 GA State OutLaw Championship at Screven Motor Speedway. The 40 Lap $3K SLM A Main Feature was run by Ultimate Super officials but established as an unsanctioned event. Qualifying trim was off some and starting roughly mid-field Jordy had his work cut out for him on this night. Without hesitation he turned his Hot Rod into one of the fastest Ginsu knives ever displayed on Honest GA Clay. He Sliced and He Diced (at times Thrice counting ReStarts) his way to point of that Legendary Pack of SLM Stars. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<b><u>BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE!!</u></b> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
He just managed to save enough RR to hold off a hard charging Mike Marler before the laps wound out. "It's truly incredible when you think about it," Jordy responded. "I could feel the car fading and knew Marler was on his way. I knew I just had to beat him off Turn 4, one more time. Man, was I ever so glad to see that set of Checkers fly. Better still, look at the quality of drivers that followed me to the Finish Line. 2nd Mike Marler, 3rd Ivedent Lloyd, 4th Shane Clanton and 5th The Cat Daddy, Clint Smith. That was a Magical Night for sure." </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
2014 held it's share of Monumental Moments for the Nipper Team as well. Among them, 8/31 witnessed Jordy scoring double Victories in the Labour Day BlowOut at Cochran. "That was really surprising there," Jordy replied. "Our LLM program had struggled the night before at 441 Speedway in Dublin. We ended the night finishing a distant 10th to some of the same folks that made the trip to CMS. I know Wil Herrington Always finds the FAST Way to get around Cochran and at Dublin the previous evening it was a two man race, dubbed The Herrington/Dudley Show. My dad, Brent and myself concentrated our efforts on the LLM at Cochran. The CLM needed only a few adjustments as the night before we pulled in 2nd to Phenix City, Ala's Jimmy Thomas. We worked on it all the way until qualifying time. We set pole in both LLM/CLM that night and led every lap until the Checkers fell our way." </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Proving once again not only the dexterity of this team but the sheer determination. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
As Jordy paces the field off Turn 4 and 2015's Flag Stand comes into view, his plans are ambitious to say the least. His 3 LM programs (CLM- Walter Newman/BushWacker, LLM- Rocket & SLM- MasterSbilt/GenX) might be looking at a 4th, the 525!! "We've looked at doing this before but really wanted to let the Chevy 525 build a bit more reputation. It's 2yrs along now and has produced some fine racing. I'd really like a chance at trying my hand at some of that FUEL Series as it gets closer to the area. As far as the season goes it'll be the same as it always is for us. We're going to look at what is going on and make a judgement call from there. I see us doing more SLM stuff with the recent show additions. We'll be competing in the Winter Freeze February 5-7th at Screven Motor Speedway running with the World of OutLaws, I always like racing that Ray Cook Southern National Series when it comes around and some of these Ultimate Super dates are intriguing as well." </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Whatever occurs in 2015 Fans of Jordy Nipper know wherever he goes they're in for a Real Show!! </div>

In his never ending quest to bring Cochran Motor Speedway above and beyond "Eldora of GA" status, Chris Martin has invited the Ultimate Super Late Model Series in to sanction the GA State Championship October 16-17th!! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Ultimate Series Director, Kelley Carlton, was quoted as saying, "Chris and his staff have really stepped up to the plate to bring more Super Late Model Racing to the area. I have heard many times over what a great job they have done with the racing surface and the facility in general. </div>
<a name='more'></a><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
They really are putting up some good money for the racers themselves. 2 $4000 to win shows is a good deal for these guys. They can park on Friday and never have to move to be able to race for 2 separate purses. That is such a help on fuel and travel expenses. We are Very Excited about making our first appearance there with the ULTIMATE Supers!! We hope all the fans will come out and support the track and teams so we can make this an annual event for us." </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
2015 season for Cochran Motor Speedway begins March 14th with a Test-N-Tune session for all divisions. First points race will be on March 21st and includes all classes. The Martin Family invite all to see Dirt Track Family Entertainment served up CMS Style!!</div>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">The Gambler, Russell Brown Jr</td></tr>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
When traveling the roads in the S GA you'll run across the City built by SPEED, Valdosta... </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Nestled snugly in this city you'll find the headquarters for Russell Brown Race Cars... </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This is where our story begins... </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The Gambler has always been known as a Thinking Man's type of racer. Calculating what line his car needs, timing moves four or five laps in advance and sometimes, just sometimes, throwing it all out the window holding it Wide Open until the face of God comes into focus. It all began in 1987 when at the tender young age of 8yrs old Russell Brown Jr stood by his father's side and learned how to help the Sr Brown fabricate some of the finest chassis seen in Georgia. A Lifelong "Hands On" approach to the industry has helped RBJ mold skills and gain knowledge necessary to understanding the intimate inner workings of DLMs. This tradesman ability has kept him atop LM Power Rankings around these parts for many years. </div>
<a name='more'></a><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Growing up in his father's shop, Russell Brown Jr idolized "The Southern Gentleman" Freddy Smith. Over his long career Freddy Smith amassed 784 Wins, 5 Dirt Track World Championships, twice The Dream at Eldora (including the inaugural race in 1994) and was counted among the very 1st class inducted into the National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame. A right fine standard of racer to pattern your career after. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Russell Brown Jr had his 1st start in 2003 behind the wheel of a LM at Crisp County's Watermelon Capital Speedway in Cordele, GA. It was a National Late Model Series event and brought out some of the finest men to hold a steering wheel. Not only did he qualify his RBRC into the event but kept the fenders clean and finished 14th from a Full Field. Russell's 1st official DLM Win came in 2004 at North Florida Speedway. His richest occurred in 2009 at Oglethorpe Speedway Park as The Gambler rode a rail though a Stout Field at the ShowDown in Savannah. Before the Checkers could fall on that event, Russell had lapped the entire field clean up to 5th place while collecting a $5K PayDay. To date, he's quickly brought his Career Total to 45 Victories. When questioned about his most memorable one the Valdosta native humbly replied, "Every Win is cherished. Anytime you can out-duel the competition, the track and various other elements to grab a piece of your own dream, that's something special right there." </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Looking at the 2015 calendar Russell is quite excited!! GA811 is back as a major sponsor on his team for a 3rd straight year, RBRC is set to debut a new LM chassis and the quality of shows coming to the S GA are 2nd to none! He plans on running the Super Bowl at Golden Isles Speedway early February then the Bama Bash at East Alabama later in the month. From there he plans on running more of a Billy Moyer Sr type of Pick-N-Choose schedule. Sprinkling in some Ultimate Super Late Model dates along with a possible return to the Hornet's Nest at Talledega. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
If the cards are down and laps about unwound- Always BET on The Gambler to Pull Out a Pair of Aces when it Counts Most!! </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
On 12/13/14 the Dawsonville based Georgia Racing Hall of Fame opened their books for five new members. Among the notable entries were Leon Archer, Roscoe Smith and 2006 National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame Inductee, Augusta native, "Lightning" Jack Pennington! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Jack began his march into infamy in 1974 when he took a 3,800lb former Winston Cup car to run at Golden Isles Speedway in Brunswick, GA. The man finished a surprising 3rd. What made the finish even more surprising was the fact that he did so on asphalt tires! Time restraints and availability left the team without dirt track rubber but left stoked coals in his belly for More!! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<a name='more'></a><br />
1st of many Checkers to fall came at the 1/2mi clay banks of Oglethorpe Speedway Park in Savannah, GA. Shortly thereafter word ran rampant all across tracks in Georgia and beyond that Jack was on his way and Lightning was about to Strike! 1979 saw him take 12 poles in 13 races at Myrtle Beach Speedway and claim the Points Championship over fellow Hall of Famer Leon Archer. 1980 cemented the fact that Jack was Lethal at any track. He won an Astonishing 39 Races all across the SE in the B&D Boiler Race Team's car. This included scores of a half dozen wins in the National Dirt Racing Association touring series against some of the finest men to ever grace clay.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
During his career Jack Pennington drove for such Legends as Derrick Close, CJ Rayburn, Barry Wright, Walter Newman and many others. With each new team his skills and determination grew as did the level of readiness of his equipment. This enabled him to capture ever Grandeur Events such as the National 100 at EAMS, double handfuls of various series sanctioned events and the Stick Elliot Memorial Race twice at Cherokee Speedway. Onward and Upward, Stretching and Reaching for that Victory Kiss from the Trophy Girl AND Always looking forward to the NEXT Race. That was the cadence that played in Jack's head and his fans followed where he led.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Throngs of fans, myself included, were fortunate to watch Jack ply his trade behind the wheel of a DLM. These indelible, savoured images are forever etched into memory as not one eye present will ever forget the on track Heroics they were witness to. There never was, nor will there ever be a 2nd place in line for </div>

You Antisocial?<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Throughout my career in racing I have tried to pay careful
attention to trends and ideas used by promoters and racers that seem to benefit
those that are using them. 10 years ago we had a few magazines and newspapers
to help spread the word of what was going on in racing. Other than that it was
word of mouth, an occasional newspaper ad or a flier at the local auto parts
store. While all of those were fairly good methods they didn’t reach much of
the potential audience. How many times “back then” did you show up at your
local weekly racetrack to find that there was a special event going on?
Fast-forward a few years and the proliferation of the Internet - message boards
out the wazoo and everybody has their own website. These new alternatives
certainly provided you with the ability to reach more people and gave you a
place to get your news out. But it was trendy. Some users did an excellent job
with keeping their site fresh and kept up with posting the news across the
various racing message boards. But others faltered and failed miserably. And
those that had been visiting their websites and those boards searching for news
quickly became frustrated and gave up looking.<br />
<a name='more'></a><o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
In the last few years the social media world has exploded.
Everyone has a Facebook page and more and more people are signing on to
Twitter. Many promoters and racers have seen the benefits of these FREE
ADVERTISING outlets and have started to use them with great success. I remember
attending an RPM Workshop a few years back that focused on social media. I
remember many of the old guard in the room seemed to dismiss these “new
fangled” ideas as nonsense. But I can’t help but believe that some of them went
right back home and started working on implementing these into their program. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
When used properly, there is no doubt this type of media
will be of benefit to you whether you are the race promoter, a sponsor, a team
owner or a driver. Fans love it. We live in the age of information, immediate
information for that matter. People have a hunger for it. They can never seem
to get enough. I look at what drivers like Dan Schlieper and Bub McCool have
done with their Twitter accounts. Each keeps their fans updated with where
their driver will be at and what is going on in their program. And while
websites are great for that, outlets such as Twitter and Facebook give it to
people in almost real time. The news as it is happening so to speak. I think
back to the USA Nationals and I remember Kim Smith (wife of World of Outlaws
regular Clint Smith) talking about how she heard about Clint’s wild flipping
accident seconds after it happened and seconds after that finding out that he
was unhurt. That is priceless. If you are a fan of someone that is information
you want and the sooner you get it the better.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
I also look at guys like Chris Ferguson who utilizes the
many social media outlets to his full advantage. Over the winter last year he
meticulously chronicled the construction of his brand new Warrior Chassis. He
used pictures and carefully placed sponsor logos to really highlight his
sponsors and give them that extra little bit of exposure. That is important to people
– especially to those who spend money on you. One of the first few questions I
am asked when working with a potential sponsor is “Do they have a website or
Facebook page?” It’s quick and easy for them to see and get information about
you or your facility. It also tells a tale of how well you take care of the
sponsors you already have. Remember that whole keep it fresh thing. That is
critical to keep people coming back and smart sponsors know that already.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
I have heard from some promoters that they think race
updates posted to social media outlets will “hurt their attendance” because
“people will stay home and just read about the race”. Come on, really? If race
fans have the ability to be at the racetrack, they are going to be there.
Nothing can beat being there to hear the roar of the engines, the smell of
racing fuel or the site of guys going at it 2 and 3 wide. If people are choosing
to stay home and READ about your event when they could have been there, well
then, frankly you have some work to do on the product you are putting out. This
SERVICE is for the fans that can’t be there. The ones that are working or are
sick or just cannot get there for whatever reason. Those are the people who
will appreciate it most and will reward you for looking out for them. I can’t
help but remember a fan approaching me at an event a couple of years back. He
said he appreciated us doing our updates because he was at home taking care of
his sick wife. He told me how he and his wife were both race fans and it meant
the world that he was able to tell her about what was going on at the races and
how her favorite drivers were fairing.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
There are so many good examples of folks using the social
media world to their advantage. Wythe Raceway in Rural Retreat, Virginia
frequently posts photos of their track prep that is going on leading up to an
event. If I am a fan or a racer seeing that, I will automatically believe that
the Brown’s at Wythe are working hard to give me a good track surface. They are
showing they care. I am important to them and they want me to know that. And
basically that is what the whole thing boils down to. Making sure people have
information shows that you care about them and want them to know everything
about your program. Something so small and simple can mean so much to race
fans. And with all the many available forms of entertainment today, we racing
folks need every advantage we can get.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
So, I say use them all. Message boards, websites, Facebook,
Twitter, MySpace, Linked-In, YouTube, newsletter programs like Constant Contact
- everything and anything you can find to get your information out. Don’t be
anti-social. Use what’s available – most of which is cheap or free. And one last word of advice: find someone to
do it that will DO IT. Assign it to them and hold them accountable to get it
done. Don’t let it fall by the wayside and get forgotten. Keep it up and keep
it fresh and it will benefit you. Oh and be sure to follow me on Twitter
@KELCARMS – Thanks for reading.<o:p></o:p></div>

<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/--6AXZNuCYh4/VJBygoGSuYI/AAAAAAAAIIE/cRIKZT3ItRA/s1600/1513740_788424267896648_3860278966080255046_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/--6AXZNuCYh4/VJBygoGSuYI/AAAAAAAAIIE/cRIKZT3ItRA/s1600/1513740_788424267896648_3860278966080255046_n.jpg" height="425" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
The story behind the MAN from Manning, SC is an interesting one to say the least. Galloping Gib Gibbons is grandson to Racer Edward Guy "Slick" Gibbons a Claredon County Athletic Hall of Famer and son to the Late Great Edward Guy "lil Ed" Gibbons Jr a National Dirt Late Model Hall of Famer. Ed's career spanned 25 years garnering him better than 400+ Wins. His richest came in Concord, NC where he took the J.W. Hunt 200 to the tune of $20,000!!<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
Edward Guy "Gib" Gibbons III had never thought of setting foot in a race car until the untimely passing of his father from an automobile accident in early 2009. But then hanging around a Race Shop where Legendary Wins were born from the coupling of Ray Cagle's Ingenious Race Car Engineering and Ed Gibbons driving ability has a profound effect on a man that is naturally competitive. Roughly midway through the 2010 season saw Galloping Gib climb behind the wheel of the #07 DLM and not look back.<br />
<br />
The 2014 season found this team competing all across the SE and in various series such as FUEL 525, SECA, NeSmith and more. He claimed the Super7Series Championship at Screven Motor Speedway and bagged an assortment of wins on the year. Most cherished win for his young career came when he took the Checkers in the LLM portion of Ed Gibbons Memorial on April 6, 2014 at Fayetteville, NC. Grabbing up a Win in his own father's memorial is not a memory too soon forgot.<br />
<br />
As the 2015 season solidifies and comes more into focus, it appears to be a Bright one for this Talented WheelMan! The team looks to compete in the full FUEL 525 series seeking a Title. Gib mentioned the CLM portion of their program will be more of a pick and choose type of year with part of it being given over to their NEW SLM program.<br />
<br />
Keep your eyes peeled to those South Carolina Skies as Galloping Gib's Rocket looks to Rise And TouchDown at a Victory Lane near you!!<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-8mBbbU4zoT4/VJB0cIUyAWI/AAAAAAAAIIY/8UaXOPXZFxo/s1600/10846195_879030212130793_4344089887971715981_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-8mBbbU4zoT4/VJB0cIUyAWI/AAAAAAAAIIY/8UaXOPXZFxo/s1600/10846195_879030212130793_4344089887971715981_n.jpg" height="402" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
The Thomas Family Name has been Heralded as the High Water HallMark of Dirt Track Racing since the late 1940s. They single handedly Revolutionized the LM Industry, shaping it into what we know today, when Mr Jimmy and son Billy Thomas designed/constructed the first Jig Built DLM in 1975. Early Consistent Success of the chassis brought hundreds of racers to the shop's doorstep wanting a "Jig-A-Lo" of their own. Hall of Fame Dirt Late Model Champions such as Buck Simmons, Ronnie Johnson, Billy Moyer, Charlie Hughes and so many more have piloted the Jig-A-Lo into Immortality's SpotLight! The chassis captured high profile events like World 100, National 100, U.S. Dirt Track World Championship and eventually became the MOST copied chassis in history. There wasn't any fooling a Real Racer, tho. They could always feel the difference between the Real Thing and a knock off by the seat of their pants.<br />
<a name='more'></a> </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
Continuing in this Steeped Family Tradition Mr Ben and Jimmy Thomas changed the name Jig-A-Lo to Scorpion Race Cars in 2000 and have been producing their own fine line of Feature Winning chassis. The Scorpion quickly Claimed BIG Checks from events such as Turkey 100, BAMA Bash, National 100, BAMA State Championship, TST's Ice Bowl, NeSmith Series WINS and Countless Others.<br />
<b><u><br /></u></b>
<b><u>Fact Of The Matter</u></b>: In the Highly Competitive Industry of DLM Racing, you can't just rely on Victories past. You've got to constantly improve upon what is already <b><u>FAST</u></b> and make it <b><u>FASTER</u></b> Still!! These Engineers of Checkered Flag Finishes have done just that! The 2015 Scorpion Chassis, set to Roll out Feb 26-28th at the 18th Annual BAMA Bash, has had technological advances in both front and rear geometry getting you to that Podium Pose So Much Quicker! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
Give the Good Folks at Scorpion Race Cars a Call and set the DLM World <b>AFIRE</b>!! </div>
